Dear Savas!

I hadn’t heard about you as a politician and writer before, but given that you seem to take a vantage point similar to that of Ernst Bloch (whom I’ve read and greatly admire for his very productive stance towards different forms of culture, from Erbschaft dieser Zeit to Atheismus im Christentum), I probably should. The developments in Greece (and Europe at large in relation to Greece and a number of other countries) are deeply disturbing, with facists exploiting a crisis (as the only environment where they can have sufficient political success) to eradicate democracy, democrats, jews, foreigners. The “center”, itself a word for rightwing, feels comfortable enough about it, and I wonder if it has the power.

It is due to people like you that it might have not, and I dearly hope that such a spirit even prevails in court. A second Greek facism sounds about as desirable as a Europe ruled by the European Commission, with similar ends and probably even more brutal means.

With solidarity from Ulaanbaatar
