I write in solidarity against the prosecution of Savas Michael-Matsas by the Greek state. Though I write in a personal capacity, I am a member of the Faculty of Law of the University of Oxford and I teach (among other things) the notoriously stringent English law of defamation. Even from the perspective of this law, the prosecution of Savas-Michael Matsas by the Greek state, as it is reported in the press, appears as a clear abuse of legal process.
All the more it should be unequivocally condemned from the perspective of the defence of democratic rights and of the interests of the workers' movement.
