Dear Sirs,

St. Petersburg Association for Marxist Organizations is applying to you with a re- quest to make their deepest concern for the trial initiated by the Golden Dawn Party against Savas Michael-Matsas, Secretary General of the Workers’ Revolutionary Party (EEK) of Greece, and Konstantinos Moutzouris, the former rector of the National Technical University of Athens, which is to be held on 3 September 2013, known to The Greek Government.

The “Golden Dawn” Party has charged Savas Michael-Matsas with “instigating violence and chaos” and “disrupting the civil peace” on the ground that 4 years ago, in May 2009, the EEK published a leaflet calling for public protest against murderous attacks and pogroms against the immigrant communities in Athens, unleashed by the “Golden Dawn” members and their supporters, and advocated for solidarity with the victims of the assault. Constantinos Moutzouris, at the time of the events the Dean of the National Technical University of Athens was accused by the mentioned above party for having allowed the alternative web site Athens Indymedia to be run from the University campus.

Judging from the materials at our disposal the 3-rd of September, 2013 trial appears to make part of a campaign the “Golden Dawn” Party, which possesses major characteristics of a fascist organization, is waging against its political opponents and the left in general. The twentieth century history has abundantly provided the mankind with examples of the kind, and the Greek nation has made its own contribution to the defeat of the Nazis in World War II. We very much hope that the Greek court would reject the “Golden Dawn” Party appeal and the Greek society would stop the Nazi party claims to form the mode of life of the Greek Republic citizens.
