To Whom It May Concern:

I am writing for the benefit and in support of Mr. Savvas Matsas, who is facing trial for denouncing the actions and ideology of the Golden Dawn party.

I believe strongly that his rights and concerns are for the benefit of the Greek nation and all its people, and not contrary to tenets of democratic responsibility. To name a movement that has expressed virulent phobias based on race prejudice, and that has actively persecuted immigrants and their supporters, “criminal” is to see and speak out that the national purpose of integrating peoples and permitting them sanctuary and universal human rights, as all should be accorded, is endangered. What can be the purpose of defaming humanitarian values of a nation that has claims on the roots of civilization?

I hope this will be an examination of a patriot’s concern for his country.

Sincerely,
Russell Woodward
