We are expressing our solidarity with the leader of the Greek Trotskyistgroup EEK, Savas Michael-Matsas, and with the former rector of the NationalTechnical University of Athens, Konstantinos Moutzouris, both of whom areto stand trial in Athens on 3rd September 2013. S. Michael-Matsas is accused of defamation against the Nazi party Golden Dawn and "incitement toviolence" on the basis of his and his party's anti-fascist publications, and K. Moutzouris is accused of allowing the Athens Indymedia news portalto be run from the university campus. This is a part of a wider campaign being waged by the Greek Nazis to sue their political enemies. The Greekfascists choose the legal path to provide a basis for state attacks againstthe left. But these „legal” means are always combined with illegal physicalattacks against left-wing activists and immigrant communities as well as Jewish synagogues and cemeteries.
In early 2009, after the revolt of the Greek youth in December 2008, the right-wing government – with the assistance of the „Golden Dawn” – unleashed pogroms in neighborhoods with lots of immigrants. The Greek left organized a number of antifascist demonstrations in which EEK also
participated.
"Golden Dawn" made a legal complaint against all the parties of the left – including the Communist Party of Greece (KKE), the left alliance SYRIZA, the anticapitalist alliance ANTARSYA and also the EEK – as well as immigrant associations and independent activists. This complaint was resurrected by the right-wing Samaras government in 2012 and the police began interrogations of those named in the complaint. In June 2013, of the 80 people accused, only two were selected: K. Moutzouris and S.
Michael-Matsas.
The Greek police force are collaborating with the fascists of the Golden Dawn, who are neither prosecuted nor even arrested despite their attacks, armed with guns and bats, against the immigrants, other oppressed people and fighting organisations. The judiciary, for its part, rather than
investigating into the cowardly assaults and assassinations committed by members of the Golden Dawn against immigrants, is trying to intimidate the combative sections of the working class and the left.
Prague Spring Two Network denounces these actions! We are solidary with Savas Michael- Matsas and Constantine Moutzouris and demand to drop all charges against them!
