It is a sign of the hollowness of formal "democracy" that it would protect fascists--who celebrate violence and anti-intellectualism--from critique while *criminalizing* dissent and protest. The Greeks above all all should know the value of direct democracy and the great danger of militarism and racism, from the Thirty Tyrants to Nazi occupation.

The Greek government must drop all charges against Savvas Matsas.  It is not only his right but his *duty* to actively oppose, in word and deed, Golden Dawn and all fascists, which represents the antithesis of all social good, and embodies our most irrational and destructive qualities under
capitalism.

Sincerely,
